Build Custom Reports with AI

Create Custom Reports faster by asking AI to generate charts, tables, and KPI views from plain-language prompts.

Overview

The AI Widget Builder helps you build Custom Reports using plain-language prompts. Instead of manually selecting every widget setting, you can describe the chart, table, or KPI view you want to create, then add the AI-generated widget to your report.

AI-generated widgets use the same dimensions, components, and limitations as widgets created through the standard Custom Report Builder. After adding an AI-generated widget to your report, you can move, resize, or edit it manually.

The AI Widget Builder can help you:

  • Generate widgets from plain-language prompts

  • Create charts, tables, and KPI views

  • Add generated widgets to Custom Reports

  • Edit generated widgets manually

  • Build full reports one widget at a time

The AI Widget Builder creates reporting views. It doesn't analyze performance, explain why performance changed, or recommend what to do next.

Supported reporting data

The AI Widget Builder supports a broad set of commonly used Reporting metrics and dimensions. All campaigns and creatives within MNTN are available for querying. For best results, use the same metric and dimension names you see in Reporting and the Custom Report Builder.

If a metric or dimension is not available through the AI Widget Builder, the chat will let you know it is not available through this feature. These requests may be logged to help MNTN improve the AI Widget Builder experience.

Before You Begin

Your account must have had at least one live campaign so Reporting has data available to use.

Create a Custom Report with AI

  1. Sign in to MNTN.

  2. Click the Reporting tab.

  3. From the left navigation pane, click + Create Report.

  4. In the upper right corner, click + Create New Blank Report.

The Ask AI chat opens in the left pane.

  5. Enter a prompt describing the report you want to create.

  6. Review the generated widget to confirm it matches what you wanted to build.

    Check that:

    • The correct metrics are included.

    • The widget uses the correct chart, table, or KPI format.

    • The data is broken out by the correct dimension.

    • The widget reflects the reporting view you intended.

    • The report uses the right date range and filters.

    • Any manual edits are still correct.

If the widget is not what you expected, revise your prompt, ask AI to update the selected widget, or edit the widget manually.

  7. Click Add to report →.

After adding the widget, you can move, resize, or edit it like any other Custom Reports widget.

  8. To continue building your report, enter another prompt and add the next generated widget.

Write Effective Prompts

Strong prompts usually include:

  • Metric: What you want to measure, such as spend, impressions, visits, conversions, ROAS, or CPA.

  • Chart, table, or widget type: How you want the data displayed.

  • Dimension: How you want the data grouped, such as by campaign or creative.

If you want to narrow the report using filters, apply those filters at the report or dashboard level.

Prompt Examples

Instead of

Try

Show me performance.

Create a table with impressions, spend, visits, conversions, ROAS, and CPA broken out by campaign.

Show conversions.

Create a pie chart of conversions broken out by campaign.

Build a dashboard.

Create a widget with high-level KPIs for spend, visits, conversions, ROAS, and CPA.

Why are conversions down?

Create a line chart showing conversions over time, broken out by campaign.

Edit an AI-Generated Widget

AI-generated widgets can be edited using the standard Custom Report Builder.

You can also select an existing widget and ask AI to update it.

Example prompts:

  • Add the activity timeline to this chart.

  • Change this to a table.

  • Break this out by campaign instead.

  • Add ROAS and CPA to this widget.

View AI Summaries

AI summaries help you understand report data faster. The AI summary appears in the report view and summarizes the data within the report, with focus on the selected or portaled metrics. The summary uses the report’s filters and date range as context.

Depending on the report and selected metric, the summary may include details such as:

  • Whether the metric is up or down compared to a previous period.

  • Spend during the selected time period.

  • Breakdowns related to the selected reporting view.

AI summaries explain the data shown in Reporting. They do not make campaign recommendations or tell you what action to take next.

Send Feedback

After AI generates a widget, you can select thumbs up or thumbs down.

Use thumbs:

  • Up when the response is helpful and matches your request.

  • Down when the response does not match your request. If prompted, add feedback explaining what was wrong or missing.
